Moon Shine

I noticed that the challenge for this week was “Moon Shine” so it seemed like a perfect time to post this poem 🙂

Ominous

Moonbathing

Whistling throughout the night,
the wind rustles the trees,
the grass, my glistening
fur coat
as I lie
on the wet soil, sniffing
the air, refreshing
after the last
rainfall.

Crystal droplets gleam
in the moonlight.
The crickets chant
vibrates in my ear,
melodic, soothing, hypnotic,
as white light dances
in the water.

Ripples of beauty
cascading throughout the pond,
mesmerizing,
and then I see her.

The small of her back, exposed
above a silky fabric
gently floating in the air.
Skin so smooth, so white,
like porcelain,
so very, very cold.

Her body drifts
toward me,
glistening
in the moonlight.
Under the twinkles
in the sky,
her soul
will be
reborn.

I close my eyes and howl.

Nails

Here’s a short, fun poem for you to enjoy 🙂

Nails

colored pink, silver,
or anything else,
they grow,
they scratch, they pick,
they peel.
round, square,
short or long,
they belong
on fingers
and toes.

Beauty in Silence

I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day last Friday.  To help you continue some of that romance, I’d like to share a sweet love poem with you.

Beauty in Silence

On a wooden bench,
we sit
with our endearing
shadows.
Your arm
around my shoulder,
my head on yours.

Fuzzy cashmere
brushes my cheek
as we watch
cars zoom by –
a flash of metal,
a puff of dust.

A squirrel scurries
across the lawn
as the sprinklers
turn on
with the scent
of Spring.

The breeze ruffles
your hair.
Tulips waver
side to side.
Leaves float
to the ground,
a gentle sound.

The sky changes colors,
the sun drops down
as your breathing
joins with mine.
Watching
the world go by.

Watching the World Go By

Cee’s Which Way Challenge: Week 4

The other day, I was downloading images from my phone and discovered 3 photos that I totally forgot I had taken, and I realized that it was perfect for this challenge.  I usually love taking photos of paths partly because of the composition and partly because it is a metaphor for life.  The path of life can be curvy and full of challenges, but you see a lot of beautiful things along the way, and when you get to the end of it, you feel accomplished.  Sometimes, you want to pause and stand there for a while.  Sometimes, you might want to retrace your steps because you had so much fun enjoying the journey.

Ominous

I originally wrote this poem back in February 2008 while my ex was driving me to his place.  It’s one of my favorite poems because of the fast-paced rhythm and the meaning behind it.  I wasn’t planning to post this until October (around Halloween), but then I saw an “ominous” moon again on February 13th, almost 6 years after I wrote this poem and it just spoke to me.  Lucky for me, I happened to have my camera to capture it as well.  All the better for you 🙂

Ominous

Ominous

A splotchy beige roundness
hidden behind clouds,
floating, hovering
in a violet, black sky,
luminous, ominous,
casting moonlit glares
upon us
as we drive
on the highway,
as we drive
ourselves insane.

Thinking, believing
that the shadows
against the moon
is a witch
on her broom,
that there are vampires
lurking,
predators
waiting
for prey.

Wolves crashing
through the forest,
ready to feast
and howl.
Witches dancing
around the cauldron
cooking
up spells,
as we shiver
in fear,
letting imagination
consume us.

But what we fear
is from within
the beats of our hearts,
the thump, thump
of greed, of jealousy,
of vanity and insecurity,
dishonesty,
lack of purity.

The anger, the madness
surges in flames
as we fidget and blink.
A pang in the chest,
a clasp to the heart
that pounds and pounds
as disparity crawls
on our backs.
Fear tickles
the spine.
The heat rushes
to our face
as we gasp and choke,
breaking out
in tears.

Fear of who we are,
of what we are,
and what we can do,
as we grasp
for the other’s hand,
trying to comprehend,
to understand,
to disbelieve
the insane.

Waiting, hoping
the clouds will disappear,
and the moon
will turn white again,
smiling down upon us
as we go back
to believe the world
is good
and that we
are sane.

Goodbye Floral Beauty

We will be moving office locations this week, so being the sentimental person that I am, I decided to venture out and capture the beautiful floral that I often walk by on a daily basis, as I will no longer see them.  Beautiful Flora, I hope you continue to flourish and bring beauty to all that behold you.  Please know that you will be missed.

People Against the World

There are so many things that I come by every day, that I read about, that I watch or that I hear and often ignore.  However, some things are so powerful that it makes me take a moment and think about the world, about life, and mostly, about how people view life.  For instance, I heard this song on the radio the other day about homosexuals.  It’s not everyday you hear this type of song.  It was very touching in that through music, the artist was able to showcase how stereotypes and religion affect people in a negative way.  It really made me open my eyes and realize how judgmental, scared, and selfish people are by nature and how great it would be if we could all accept each other, regardless of race, religion or sexual orientation.  I had to look up the song, so if you haven’t heard it yet, it’s called “Same Love” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, featuring Mary Lambert.  I’ll insert it below for you 🙂

A few days prior to me hearing this song, a friend of mine posted on Facebook that Idaho is coming up with a bill to allow doctors the right to deny service to LGBT people due to religious beliefs.  This sort of blew my mind as we are in 2014.  Here is the article.

Over the years, the world changes.  Our technology and our style of living becomes more advanced, but I’m not really sure people grow emotionally or psychologically since we always seem to be in the same situations, despite the time period.

This same week, I happened to watch an episode of Babylon 5 with my boyfriend (who is a huge fan).  The episode was “Confessions and Lamentations” and talked about a disease that was striking the Markab people like the plague.  When the disease first appeared many years ago, it only affected a small percent of the Markab population that was at a different location.  They thought it struck those citizens because they had disappointed God.  When the disease appeared again years later, citizens thought they wouldn’t be affected because they were in God’s graces and when it did strike, the government would not allow them to talk of it (as they were ashamed of what was happening).  Little by little, all the Markab were getting infected at the station.  Other races, afraid that the disease would spread to them wanted the Markab to be isolated.  Some of the other races even abused the Markab, blaming them for the situation.  Unfortunately, the cure came too late, and all the Markab were unable to survive the disease.  The thing that really struck me the most was the ending of the episode, how people simply joked about the Markab being extinct.

As an optimistic dreamer, I hope that people can improve their mindset and show true compassion to others in need, or at least be less insensitive.

Sunrise in the Sky

The only good thing about an early morning flight for a business trip is the possible opportunity to see the sun rise while you are flying high in the sky.  Lucky for me, this past Tuesday (being half awake), I was able to take in this beautiful view.

While this is not the best shot I could have taken with my camera phone, it should give you a general idea 🙂  You see, I was too busy initially marveling at the view and coming up with the right words to describe it in my poem.  I hope you enjoy this piece.  By the way, do you spot the heart in the first photo?

Sunrise in the Sky

An ocean of clouds,
textured, soft and clumpy
like cotton, like snow
bathed in champaigne
colored sunshine.

It weaves in and out
between mountain ranges
like wispy waves
thrashing
against the shore
moving
through ridges,
flowing
like a river,
falling

graciously,
sporadically
resembling
a waterfall

as the sun embraces
the glacier-like clouds
and mountains
with a gentle warmth,
a golden touch,
a lovely strip of pink
high above
the California sky.

I witness
this sight.

And here are two other cool images that I liked 🙂

Sunday Post: Nature

I found out about this challenge from Dawn’s Post and decided to join in on the fun this week.  I was visiting the Phoenix area in November and decided to check out the Desert Botanical Garden.  Lucky for me, there was a Chihuly in the Garden exhibit, which was spectacular.  I ended up going there in the late afternoon, so I was able to see the exhibit in sunlight, sunset, twilight and darkness.  I had to tinker around with my camera settings a bit.  The following images are my favorite shots because it has interesting juxtaposition (man-made objects in a natural landscape).  I hope you enjoy it!  To join the challenge yourself, visit the Sunday Post.

Scene in the Wilderness

About two week’s ago, I posted an image of a sunrise at Tracy Arm Fjord, which I witnessed during my Alaska Cruise.  I have went ahead and wrote a poem based on that image =)  These are actually fun exercises.  If there is any photo that you would like me to try and write a poem on, please feel free to post it in the comments section.

Scene in the Wilderness

Half asleep, my eyes can see
a most amazing serene beauty,
golden sunlight mixed with
white wispy clouds
touching areas of pink
all hugging the baby blue sky
tenderly
above a white
snow-capped mountain
in the middle
of the ocean,
like a postcard
I didn’t expect
to see in reality.

Scene in the wilderness,
magical pastels
painted by light
captured in my eyes,
framed in my mind,
shot with my lens,
forever lives
in my soul.

The waves thrash gently
below the ship,
icebergs float aimlessly,
wind blows ferociously
in my face
as my hand freezes,
holding dearly
to my camera
trying to capture
this moment
at the break
of dawn –
Day 9 –
Tracy Arm Fjord.
